Installing proCube

Installing proCube

This topic describes using the installation wizard to install the client and/or the server. Procedures for installing the separate proCube Excel integration are also provided. proCube Server is typically installed on a shared, network server, but can be installed on a standalone workstation, where it is usually installed along with the proCube client application.

The installation process documented in this topic uses the 32-bit edition of proCube. The 64-bit edition of proCube is installed using the same methods as the 32-bit edition. Both installations use the InstallShield Wizard.

The Instance Manager allows you to create and modify proCube Instances. Each Server can support up to 8 instances. The use of multiple instances can increase performance across different databases. Each instance operates in its own memory space, meaning that each process is independent of the other, resulting in greater performance for processor–intensive functions such as recalculations and data loading.

If you are uncertain whether you need more than one instance, select only one instance. For more information on using the Instance Manager, go to Adding multiple instances.

Installing with the unattended client

9Dots offers a silent installation option that allows you to install proCube and the proCube Excel Integration installation packages (go to proCube, Excel, and MSI installation packages for details) without user interaction. If you are installing proCube on multiple workstations, this option may be for you.

proCube Client Automated Install

You can silently install proCube without user interaction. In order to do this, proCube Excel must first be installed. Please follow the instructions outlining how to distribute proCube Excel silently before distributing the proCube Client. Additionally, in order for the program to execute correctly, the Visual C++ run time must be installed as well. It can be downloaded from:

To run a silent installation, from the command line, issue the following command:

Msiexec /i proCubeSetup32.msi /qn ADDLOCAL="Core,Client" [CLIENT_KEY=""]

Example: Msiexec /i proCubeSetup32.msi /qn ADDLOCAL="Core,Client" CLIENT_KEY="xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-mh1q49or"

The parameters are:

To silently upgrade an existing installation of proCube Excel, use the following line:

msiexec /i \proCubeExcelSetup32.msi /qn REINSTALLMODE=vomus REINSTALL=ALL

proCube/Excel Integration

When proCube is installed, it configures the proCube Excel Integration (Add-in) for the currently logged-in user who is running the installation and uses Active Setup Technology to configure the proCube Excel Integration for all other users when they log in to this machine for the first time. Specifically, the installation program creates a record in the Active Setup portion of the registry with instructions on how to register the Excel Add-in. When a user logs on to the machine, the registry hive is checked against the Active Setup hive, and if they are missing this record, the instruction is executed and proCube Excel is registered for that user.

Upgrading proCube

To upgrade your proCube (this procedure assumes you are upgrading using the 32-bit version):

  1. Log in as an Administrator (or equivalent).

  2. Download and/or locate the setup.exe file from the location provided you by 9Dots, or place the proCube CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

  3. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
