Log/Error files are created for data that can not be brought into a Cube via Xchange. The file takes the form of a “report,” indicating the reason why the data could not be brought over. The names of these files that are generated are as follows:
Xchange_[CUBE NAME] [dd mmm year]-[00 00 00].log
Note that these files will be located in the same directory as the OLP file. Error files can be very helpful for identifying issues with your underlying relational data.
For example: an error log will report if the Measures table includes data for a Customer that does not exist in the Customer table from which the Customer dimension is built—thus,Fact Data for that Customer can not be written to the Cube for that Customer. This error may require some resolution on your part: your objective would be, ultimately, to ensure that all the information in your Customers table is up to date. If the Customers table is user-created, it might require simply adding the Customer to the table.
The following is another example of an error log, which was generated in the course of the demonstration exercises. For more information, go to Modifying Relational Dimensions.
ERROR: Cube [SalesOrder] : Could not find the member Aniseed Syrup in dimension Products.
The above Error Log was generated after a Conditional Retrieval statement was created to exclude discontinued Members from the Products dimension. Assuming you constructed thecondition you would want to exclude that data, so you can ignore the Error Log.
